Dome Garden Garden

Does it do what it says on the tin?  That’s a question we keep asking ourselves. On one hand you’ve got The Domes.  On the other, there’s The Garden.

Last year we did lots of work on The Former, so this year it seemed only fair to turn our attention to The Latter…

Now, it’s not meant to be a prissy garden with neatly kept shrubberies and stripes in the lawn…  far from it.  This is an open spacein a thousand year old forest.  It should have the feel of semi naturalised woodland clearing.

So, to help it on its way, we locked up the lawn mower and let the grass grow very long.  And sure enough, within weeks, it began to reward us with a gentle explosion of strange plants which cropped up in all sorts of unexpected places.  The last of them – the Crocosmia – have been flowering vigorously for the past few weeks…

Our lovely gardeners, Natalie and Heidi, have been in seventh heaven all year jumping in and out of the undergrowth searching for little gems, ripe for transplanting to more fertile ground…

The effect is that the garden, now only in its second year, is developing nicely – and gently.

For now though the crocosmia are coming to an end. Autumn can’t be too far away…
