Quick Start for the Lodge Rooms or the Domes

This website is full of details about everything that goes on at The Dome Garden and in The Lodge Rooms, as well as giving a flavour of what it’s actually like to be here.

But its a big site and there are a lot of pages, so here’s a more straight-forward account of what to expect…

The Dome Garden is a collection of, mostly single-space, insulated, glamping domes surrounding a Hotel-style lodge and a summertime-only restaurant.

The Domes operate between Easter and the October Half Term, sleeping 2 to 8 people each. Every dome has a woodburner in the centre and is attached to its own private en-esuite. These have a WC and either a shower or a bath with hot water that you heat yourself in a wood fired boiler. There are electric lights inside and out but electricity for plugging items is only available by arrangement.

There are proper beds made up with their own white linen but we do not supply towels.

The best way to experience the Dome Garden is to cook some meals yourself but then take advantage of the wonderful food in The Lodge. This saves it all becoming a chore – you are meant to be on holiday after all!!

So, outside each dome is a simple kitchen shelter, equipped with plates and pans and pots and crocks, a wood-fired, rocket-stove cooker and an organic cold box to store your food. We don’t have barbecues because there are only about three people in the world who can cook edible food on them and we have so many fires around the site that another dozen would be a dozen too many!

Nor do we have hot tubs. We wont bore you with the medical details of how to spread boils but suffice to say it’s very difficult to keep them nice! That said they can be brought in for special events, at some considerable expense which is the only way we can ensure they are safe and hygienic.

All the domes are let in fixed blocks of either 3 or 4 nights. Some guests may choose not to use the last night but it gives access to the dome all day, and into the evening, so people with tired children or early starts can travel home late, after the traffic.

At the centre of the site is a 200 year old forest lodge, which houses a small licensed bar and the restaurant, serving breakfasts and menu-du-jour evening meals on an occasional basis. The food is excellent, built on our own experience and the recipes of famous chefs all based around the theme of Wood-fired food. This is accompanied by an imaginative, varied and humorously named wine list.

Famously, now, there is also the twice weekly “pizza night” where guests are shown how to stretch out authentic Neapolitan pizzas which are then cooked by us in a large wood fired pizza oven. Other meals can be ordered in advance, or sometimes on the day if there is space. There is also a half board option known as ‘Fed up & Board’ which provides most of your meals while you are here.

Groups bookings of 12 people, or more, are asked to include at least two meals during their stay.

The Lodge Rooms
The Lodge also contains four hotel-style double bedrooms. All the Lodge Rooms have en-suites with running hot water, flat screen TVs and tea & coffee making facilities. They do not have fridges and there are no cooking facilities- except in The Refuge which also has a Freezer, a induction hob and a little oven.

As with the domes all the linen is provided, the beds are made and, this time, we do provide towels as well.

Unlike the domes the Lodge Rooms can be booked directly online and at a discount through the pages of this website or through many online booking services.
