Quick Start Guide

This website has been designed to give you details of everything that goes on here but also a flavour of what it’s actually like to be here.

For those who want a more straight-forward description of what it is then read on…

The Dome Garden is a collection of, mostly single-space, insulated, glamping domes surrounding a Hotel-lodge with bedrooms and a part-time restaurant which will be enlarged over the course of 2017.

In the Glamping area, the domes accommodate between 2 and 8 people each. Every dome has a woodburner in the central space and is attached to its own private en-esuite with a WC and either a shower or a bath. Whilst there are electric lights in the domes, electricity for plugging items in is not generally available. This has been a process of gentle change, as we attempt to become less reliant on electricity, so some of the domes do still have it, but most of the plugs have now been removed.

All the beds are proper beds and come ready-made with their own linen. All hot water in the glamping domes is heated by individual wood burners which you do yourself. We do not supply towels in the Glamping area.

Outside, for those who want to cook at least some meals, there is a little forest kitchen shelter made from re-cycled timber offcuts. They have all the plates and pans and pots and crocks you will need plus a wood-fired, rocket-stove cooker and an organic cold box to store your food. The best way to experience the Dome Garden is to cook a few meals yourself but then take advantage of the food in The Greenhouse to save it all becoming a chore – you are meant to be on holiday after all!! We don’t have barbecues because there are only about three people in the world who can cook edible food on them!

Nor do we have hot tubs, although they can be brought in for special events, at some expense. That is the only way we can ensure they are safe and hygienic.

All the domes are let in blocks of either 3 or 4 nights. Some guests may not use the last night but it gives access to the dome all day, and into the evening, so people with tired children or early starts can travel home late after the traffic dies down.

At the centre of the site is a 200 year old forest lodge, which houses a small licensed bar and a restaurant we call “The Greenhouse”, serving breakfasts and menu-du-jour evening meals on an occasional basis. The food is excellent, mostly based on the theme of Wood fired and is accompanied by an imaginative and varied wine list. Famously, there is also the twice weekly “pizza night” where guests are shown how to stretch out authentic Italian pizzas which are then cooked by us in the large wood fired pizza oven. Other meals can be ordered in advance, or sometimes on the day if there is space. There is also a half board option known as ‘Fed up & Board’ which provides most of your meals while you are here.

Groups bookings of 10 people, or more, are asked to book at least two meals during their stay.

The Lodge also contains two hotel-style double bedrooms. There are two more under construction as well as one new dome that will operate as another hotel room over the course of 2017. All the hotel rooms have hot water that you don’t have to heat yourself, as well as flat screen TVs and minibars. There are no cooking facilities in the hotel rooms and unlike the domes with the exception of the peak holiday periods can be booked for single nights.

The Dome Garden is booked by email and payment is by BACS transfer of a 50% non-refundable booking deposit followed by the balance 8 weeks before your stay.

The Lodge Rooms can be booked online through the wye valley tourism website here
