Treehouse Practical

The Zero Zero Treehouse is the destination in itself and what we provide here will change over time and depends a bit on the seasons.

So what is there.

Well, at its heart it is simply a very lovely holiday unit for 2 plus 2 3/4 people. We say it like that because it’s a bit like a posh roadster which seats 2+2. This, believe it or not, if you’ve ever stat in the back, does not really equal 4 – although obviously it does. So that’s just our way of saying the first 2 get a wonderful spacious (at leat for a treehouse it is ) suite whilst their companions get something more compact. 3 bunks in a cosy little hideaway.

The third bunk is exactly 163cm long – 5 ft 3 inches. Hence the 3/4!!

The kitchen is delightful and has everything you need for up to five people. Although again it is compact so you have to work around each other if there are five of you.

As part of a multitude of sustainable and environmentally conscious features the house is ventilated using an MVHR unit. This regulates filtered air and circulates it throughout the building. It means you have to keep the doors shut at all times or the machine gets upset. As apart of that sustainable drive we attempt to keep the house moderately cool in summer and moderately warm in the winter. It is never hot inside. Soem might even say it is a little cool. it will certainly feel that I you live in a 22degrees sweat box! 18.5 degrees is our target temperature and once you get used to it you will find it is a lovely temperature to live in. And the value in eco brownie points is immense.

Back in the lounge there is a curated collection of books, games and videos all based around the idea of forests and organised under certification. There are some whoppers in there (Sleepy Hollow, Blair witch and of course Bambi ! Yes – we know) so if you have young ones then do exercise caution

On the roof is a fabulous glass room with a retracting roof around an aerial pond – the Skypond. There’s a wood burning stove in there for the cooler weather and when its warmer the roof draws back to give unfettered access to the sky the sun and the stars.

Downstairs is a studio come gym with beautiful gym equipment and a heated, sprung floor,. Next door a mini spa has a small sauna, steam shower and a glorious wooden tub looking out onto a cold plunge pool surrounded by an infinity pond. With some effort it is possible to heat the plunge pool but it’s not really feasible in the winter unless you’re determined !!

Everything in the house runs on lights that are controlled by an evil mastermind that spends a lot of its time trying outwit us so their behaviour is erratic. Eventually we will gain control over it but for now take the random behaviour as a mild idiosyncrasy!

The complexity of providing the hot water and running a mini spa on a non-permanent basis is tricky and sometimes goes wrong. so occasionally (as at the time of writing this) something just wont work. we’re sorry about that but rest assured we are always trying to make things better, keep things working or indeed adding or building new things to improve the whole experience of being in the house. For that reason we DO NOT GUARANTEE the existence of some of the more complex elements. So don’t come here just because we’ve “got a cool sauna”!!! (sometimes we do sometimes we dont!!)

Come for the fun, for the view, for the architecture, for communing with the forest and for being part of the adventure on a journey that we at the Dome Garden have been travelling for the last 16 years providing a sometimes haphazard set of unique experiences. If you keep your sense of humour that will fill you with the warm glow that has kept many of our guests returning again and again and again over the last 16 years.!!

Best wishes

Jonny
