Live,
Laugh,
Love,
Life.
We like this.
Spend a little time in the Dome Garden and you might get to do a little more of some of them – or even all of them!
What isn’t!!
Super comfy beds with proper mattresses, a choice of pillows, cosy duvets and the best linen we could find. There are bean bags, hanging chairs and in some domes luxurious astroturf – ideal for brushing up on your putting if you cant sleep.
Outside a little covered kitchen area outside with a Rocket stove and a Dome Garden food safe to keep things cool as well as all the plates and pans, crock and pots you’ll need for your stay.
Oh and did we mention your own private en-suite shower room and a proper flushing loo?
Tiled bathrooms,
So, no hopping across a dewy campsite in your nightgown – unless, of course, you have a particular penchant for hopping across a dewy campsite in your nightgown.
You have to sing this bit… (with huge apologies to Cat Stevens)
“Just relax.” La la la ”Take your time.” la la la
“Cos you know, it’s not easy!” La la la.
Nor is it very fast. Or very powerful. But it is lovely. so… la la la
“You will still be here tomorrow but your water will be hot” la la la
“It” being the wood fired hot water boiler that feeds the shower or bath in your Dome. They took a while to get right, but now they’re fab.
So here’s how they work. Logs in the bottom, hot water out the top. Showers in no time. Although it may help to remember the old adage (which we just made up) “Patience is a virtue bestowed on many, employed by few”
The pressure’s not huge (other than from your partner to make it work- and pronto) so don’t expect torrential tropical storm. Think more, April showers (or March, June and July this year).
If you can’t light your fire, hopping up and down in the rain has a similar effect!!
The ancient English were rubbish at spelling but they did love a bit of flogging.
So, finally after a few false starts – our little ‘Shoppee’ threw open its doors and was overflowing with Things We Love – little gems ranging from the exotically practical (Gransfors hand forged axes, really clever little firelighters, and brilliant egg cups, banger forks etc ) – to desperately dull essentials – bangers, batteries, beans, bacon, books, blah di blah … and that was just the Bs…
Only to close them again when someone ate all the chocolate bars in one go and didn’t write them on the slate!!!
So, now the shop is no more. We still do have a few little things, knives, sporks, firelighters, and some great Cool Camping books – oh and a whole lot of little spice boxes which never sold at all – and clearly weren’t tasty enough to get nicked!
Well! If that’s your attitude…
Actually, that’s absolutely fine!
If cooking is what you do all week and your here to get away from it all, give us a bit of warning and we’ll rustle up a storm of delicious food from our ‘favourite recipes’ book…
But, if you have been aching to beef up your culinary muscles in the much vaunted DOME GARDEN CAMP KITCHEN, here’s what’s in store.
Each kitchen is brimming with stuff to help you cook a tasty morsel for your fellow Domateers.
So, as well as all the crocks and pots and plates and pans, there’s also a rocket stove for cooking, a hurricane stove for boiling and a little stove-top coffee-maker to ease you into first gear in the morning.
And don’t forget our lovely Dome Garden food safes about which – more next…
So, apart from the sanitation, medicine, education, wine, public order, irrigation, roads, the fresh water system and public health, what have the Romans ever done for us?
Food safes! That’s what. Edible herb garden on the outside. Fridge on the inside. They keep cool inside by evaporating water on the outside. So, as long as you keep the top watered, your food stays cool. And you get a bundle of fantastic herbs to boot. How clever is that? Age-old technology dating all the way back to the, yes, Romans.
Now, they’re not quite as efficient as their modern day counterparts so to help things along we’ve added freezer packs that can be recharged in two little 21st century freezers when they have run out of steam – or cool!
You do have to adapt a little bit – you have to keep the door shut and you can’t store things for too long – after all the Romans didn’t!
Well, other than the odd mummy!!
Of course. But for this year, only in one dome. Wide doorways, flat access – and we do mean flat! – disabled loo and a wheel-in shower. Plus all the help we can possibly give you.
No. Everything we can do to help you enjoy your stay. Extra beds, cots and child seats as well as chargers, adapters, sterilisers, and miscellaneous baby thingeys and anything else you can possibly forget to bring.
